Update: Coi Leray Says She Wants ‘Nothing To Do’ w/ Her Father Benzino After He Defends Jailed R. Kelly Over Child Sexual Abuse Charges

Update: (May 1, 2024): Sometimes the apple does fall far from the tree.

A newly aired interview of “Love & Hip Hop” alum Benzino is currently making its rounds online, and not for good reasons. The 58-year-old is receiving backlash for defending jailed singer R. Kelly against the several charges of child sexual abuse he was hit with.

One of the people not too pleased with Benzino’s point of view is his daughter, 26-year-old rapper Coi Leray. Taking to her X account to reveal she and her dad are estranged, Coi Leray wrote,

“I want everybody to know I want nothing to do with anything my father has going on. I haven’t spoken to him in over a year and I don’t condone or respect any of them interviews he got going on. I don’t respect his decisions and I really want nothing to do with him please dont even think of me when you see him”

She continued,

“Sharing the same DNA and blood DOESN’T make us FAMILY . Loyalty , boundaries , respect , teaching , guidance , love , patience , encouragement MAKES US FAMILY.”

And added,

“I can’t wait to have a kid one day. I can’t wait to look her/him in the eye and tell them how much I love them.”

At this time, it does not appear that Benzino has addressed the posts.

Original Story: (May 1, 2024): R. Kelly legally did nothing wrong, according to the former co-owner of The Source magazine, Benzino.

During a recent interview with the “We In Miami” podcast, Benzino was asked if R. Kelly, 57, should be given “a second chance.” The “Ignition” singer is currently behind bars serving a 31-year combined sentence over multiple charges involving child sexual abuse. As we covered immensely, for decades R. Kelly used his fame to sexually abuse and take advantage of his young fans. Many have condemned the Chicago native for his crimes, however, others, including Benzino, have offered a different take.

R. Kelly

Speaking on why R. Kelly should be given grace, Benzino said,

“Everybody deserves a second chance, I know that Elvis [and] a lot of motherf*ckers f*ck with 14, 15 [year olds.] I know N*gg*s f*ck with young girls, to keep it 100. I’m not into that, [but] again, the legal age is 16 years old.”

After receiving multiple “no” responses from women in the recording room to his question “Does that make it right,” Benzino continued,

“But it’s legal in America. So why the f*ck is R. Kelly doing all this time, you know why, because they’re 14 and 13, two years younger. …even to make an age that young to be the law, you already know they going younger than that. I’m not condoning n*gg*s f*cking with little girls, it’s sick but I don’t think R. Kelly should rot in jail for 30 years either.”

Benzino then mentioned that R. Kelly’s reported troubled upbringing should have been considered during his sentencing and his friend was “exploited” by the documentaries created exposing his actions. He added,

“Them parents and them girls knew what they were dealing with, with R. Kelly. A lot of people knew that sh*t, but R. Kelly wasn’t educated.”
